Yiwu vs Alibaba
Alibaba.com is an export platform: English, international payment, sellers who expect foreign buyers, and an export margin in every price. It works well when you want a lot of one thing.
Yiwu is a physical market of tens of thousands of booths selling small commodities at domestic prices with low minimums. It works well when you want a little of many things — which is what most gift orders actually are.

The price difference and what eats it
Domestic Yiwu pricing typically runs well below Alibaba.com for the same goods, because the export margin, the English support and the international payment handling are not in the price.
What eats the difference is freight and agent fees on small orders. On a 20 kg test order the saving can vanish entirely; at a pallet it is substantial and at a container it is decisive.
What you give up in Yiwu
Trade Assurance and any recourse you can use from abroad. Booth purchases are cash transactions in a physical market — your protection is your agent inspecting the goods before they leave China, and nothing else.
Written specifications, unless you insist on them. Booths work on samples and habit, not spec sheets.

- Are Yiwu booths the manufacturers?
- Usually not. Most are trading operations representing factories elsewhere in Zhejiang and Guangdong. That is fine for stock goods and a problem for custom production, where you want to be closer to the maker.
- Can one agent buy from both?
- Yes. Booth purchases and 1688 or Alibaba orders land at the same warehouse and export together.
